Michelle Boag is Manager of PR People, a recruitment agency specializing in the public relations industry. Michelle has had extensive involvement with a wide range of community, voluntary and professional associations. Her public relations career includes working in Parliament for three National Party Leaders, managing public relations consultancies in Auckland and Wellington, General Manager, Corporate Affairs for DB Breweries and Director of Corporate Affairs for Fay Richwhite.

Paul Holmes is one of New Zealand’s leading broadcasters with over 30 years experience in radio and television. His breakfast radio programme on Newstalk ZB is the country’s dominant breakfast programme and has been confirmed as number one in the Auckland market in a remarkable 35 consecutive surveys.
TENBY POWELL
Trustee

Tenby Powell’s experience spans both the private business sector and the Military.
He held senior management positions in Fletcher Challenge and Skellerup Group, prior to forming his own company Hunter Powell Investments Limited, now a major shareholder in Rakino Group Limited, a leading New Zealand equipment rental and distribution group, where he holds the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Tenby has also served in the Regular and Reserve Forces of the New Zealand Army for 24 years, and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the appointment of Commanding Officer of the 3rd Auckland and Northland Battalion.
JOHN MCDOUGALL
Trustee

John McDougall is a specialist anaesthetist, having trained in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. He was appointed a consultant anaesthetist to Green Lane Hospital in 1984 and is presently practising at Auckland City Hospital and in private practice.
He has been involved with the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust as a Trustee since the early 1990’s and prior to that with the original beach based Surf Life Saving helicopter.
He organised the donor retrieval logistics for the cardiac transplant programme and has been involved in fixed wing ambulance services.
BOB PARKINSON
Trustee

Bob Parkinson is a company director and business consultant. He was a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants from 1970 until 2000, and a partner in Auckland public accounting practice from 1975 to 1996.
His current directorships include both publicly listed and private companies covering a diverse range of services, products and activities in New Zealand, Australia and Fiji.
He has also had a long term involvement in the healthcare and medical sectors in which he continues to consult and hold directorships, as well as extensive involvement as a trustee and administrator in a wide range of trusts including charitable, medical research and education and superannuation, family and investment trusts.

MANAGEMENT PROFILES
GREG BROWNSON
General Manager Helicopter Services
Greg served in NZ Army in Vietnam, 161 battery 1970-1971. He joined Red Beach Surf Club in 1979 gaining surf medallion and first aid and acting as powercraft officer and surf boat crewman.
In 1983 Greg joined the Helicopter Rescue Squad as a crewman. He then qualified as a NZUA Diver and Crewman instructor and in 1986 was Helicopter Crewman of the year.
In 1991 Greg joined the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust as a fulltime Helicopter Rescue crewman instructor, HUET instructor and Sea Survival Instructor and become Crew Chief in 1992.
In 2000, after 17 years at the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust, Greg was appointed Helicopter Manager. Greg also has qualifications as instructor in Winch Training, Helicopter Underwater Escape Training and maintaining helicopter crews training standards.
Greg is also a qualified Motor Mechanic.
DR JOHN ORTON
Medical Director
Dr John Orton, a medical specialist in anaesthesia, has had extensive experience in the critical care of patients undergoing transport in the aviation environment. As Medical Director for Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust since 1998, Dr Orton’s interest in the aeromedical world began in the early 1970’s with military aviation medicine in the RAAF, and continued into the military and civilian areas in the following decades.
With extensive experience in underwater and hyperbaric medicine, his current medical interests are with ensuring the competence of ARHT’s paramedics, and with quality assurance. In addition, Dr Orton advises on national emergency air services co-ordination.
DAVE WALLEY
Chief Pilot
Dave learnt to fly courtesy of Her Majesty in RAF voluntary reserve whilst a student at university in the UK. Won a Government/Oil Industry scholarship to CPL Helicopters, and worked for the Worlds biggest Helicopter operator on Oil support, in the North Sea, Borneo, Dubai, and for MOD in Falklands. Seconded to the Wildlife Department in Kenya, and Greenpeace Marine Division flying off ships in Antarctic, Arctic, Tasman and Pacific arenas. New Zealand’s only qualified Commercial Airship Pilot. Brief attempt at being Boeing 737 pilot for Air NZ and Civil Aviation Authority Inspector before returning to passion of EMS/Rescue Aviation. Specialises in Instrument Flight Check and Training, and is designated CAA examiner for several of New Zealand’s Rescue Helicopter Trusts. Logged total 8,500 flight hours.
HERBY BARNES
Crew Chief/Quality Assurance Manager
Herby came to the Trust from the Customs Department where he had served nine years as a Diver, Ship searcher and as a Crewman on their Marine response vessel HAWK II.
He joined the Trust in 1995 as a Crewman and has now worked his way up the ladder to the position of Crew Chief ensuring that all the line Crewmen are up to date with their skill competencies as well as being responsible for the Trusts Quality Assurance System by conducting regular audits and monitoring procedures.
Herby is also qualified as a Winch Training Instructor, a Helicopter Underwater Escape Training Instructor and is the lead Auditor for the organisation.
JOHN HOOPER
General Manager - Marketing and Fundraising.
John heads the marketing & fundraising departments of the Trust. In doing so, John is responsible for raising the millions of dollars required to maintain our essential rescue service
.
During the 11 years that John has been working with the Trust he has developed a corporate and community fundraising programme that is now responsible for 70 per cent of the operational funding requirement.
John is also responsible for managing our sponsor partnerships.
John has spent 19 years working in the not for profit sector managing fundraising projects for several air rescue trusts, The Royal N.Z. Plunket Society, New Zealand Police Association and many others.
JEFF NOTHER
Database Marketing and IT Manager
Originally qualifying as a heavy vehicle automotive technician, Jeff advanced into management roles within the automotive industry and, prior to joining the Trust, was General Manager of an automotive leasing organisation.
With skills in computers and database technologies developed mostly through personal interest, Jeff joined the Trust in early 1997 as the Database Coordinator. His involvement over the years with the development and administration of systems and fundraising projects has seen him progress to his current role of Database Marketing / I.T. Manager.
